We were studying bridges in home school. The activity of the day was listed as “look at a bridge”. Well, Chittagong has some big bridges! We had some time before the next wedding party in the evening. I had always wanted to walk over this bridge anyway. It was a hot walk even in November. A few days later, when we got home, the kids made some model bridges. The fanciest one turned out to be the least strongest.
My Sonlight box came on Oct 30th with Farfar. It was right in time. That morning we had a “finished Core D” little program. We videoed it. The kids shared their poems and new skills etc. And after the program, we opened the new boxes! That week we wrapped up Core D and I put everything in the binders. (I heard Lorina cheering me on in my mind.)
So on Nov 1 we had finished up one core and were set for the next one. While we aren’t on either the American school calendar year or on the Bengali school calendar — it worked perfectly for us this time. I put away all the books and we all went on a three day holiday to the Sundarbon on a boat. Time for a break.
M is more than halfway through LA 2 and she has finished Horizons Math 2 and is onto Singapore Math 2. I will be reading Science and Core B stuff with her separately from Elias as Core E is not at all for 7 year olds! She is learning the recorder and piano and her reading is getting faster, though she does not read for pleasure yet. I am waiting for that big jump.
E is starting the Core E LA. It does not feel like a big challenge. He is reading his readers to M. He is finishing up Horizons 3 math, and has done Singapore 3 math too (though that was no fun). He is halfway through a second recorder book and I am using Sequential Spelling with him.
So far, so good! (But just one year at a time).
I took a five hour train trip with the kids without the help of their Papa. It’s so much easier to travel now that they love to color and read. When I brought out school work Elias was so excited. Wow, I just love this five-year old age, and Sonlight, and the teacher that’s given my boy such a joyous start at school.
